The Project
Civils Works associated with ICON Launch Coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Project Summary: ICON was the UK's first double launch rollercoaster which opened to the public at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in May 2018. ‘ICON launches visitors on an exhilarating journey where they feel the same acceleration as a Formula 1 driver before twisting and turning at high speeds across the leisure park, interacting with other rides. A second boost of speed launches riders to heights of 88.5ft, with drops of up to 82ft, giving even the bravest of thrill seekers an unforgettable ride’.
Two years earlier in 2016 work commenced on the Civils Works associated with the ICON Launch Coaster. This involved several phases of work to demolish existing structures, remove subterranean obstructions, complete extensive piling & cofferdam works and construct foundation bases for the ride. Various phases of the work were carried out while the Pleasure Beach was open to the public therefore management of H&S Requirements was paramount.
The Civils Work was completed in order for the ride to be constructed following arrival of the first structural parts in September 2017. The ICON Launch Coaster was manufactured in Germany by Mack Rides then transported and assembled in the UK by their operatives.
